| All you need to know about game downloads | | Posted Wednesday, January 25, 2006 9:21:27 AM by Rose Martins | Game downloads are easy, convenient and relatively cheap, some are even for free.
There are full games to be downloaded to your PC, your mobile phone and to your portable sony playstation. And you don't have to always buy before trying.
Many websites offer free demo games that can be downloaded and played for a limited period of time, or limited to just a few of the starting levels. Freeware game downloads are also very much available.
The catch is that these free game downloads are often accompanied by spyware and add-ons, usually without your knowledge and are not always easily detectable.
Video game and psp downloads have gained popularity with the launch of the new Sony PlayStation Portable. And then there is always "ye ole faithful" Mario, the legend of computer and video games. Many mobile phone service providers offer game downloads at a nominal price.
The tricky part when it comes to game downloads for a mobile phone, is the amount of free memory available. Most phones will limit you, and old downloaded games will have to be deleted before new games can be downloaded.

| | | Advances in technology changing way fans see the game | | Posted Wednesday, December 27, 2006 2:52:43 PM by Blog57 Team | | The San Francisco Giants were in the thick of the pennant race in August 2002. And Blake Krikorian and his brother, Jason, were stuck at their office with no way to watch. The afternoon game was being shown on a local TV station, but their office didn't have a TV feed. They signed up for an Internet service that showed games live -- only to discover local teams were blacked out. "We thought, 'There's got to be a way we can watch and control our living room television,' " Blake Krikorian said. "Whether I'm in my backyard on my laptop, or sitting in an office on my desktop, or traveling in Shanghai with my mobile phone, it shouldn't really matter. All I want is my familiar, living room TV programming." Thus, Slingbox was born. The product, which lets people watch their home TV anywhere, anytime using an Internet-connected computer or handheld device, is one of the many ways the view of games we love are changing.... | |

| | | Gaming Console Review: Sony Playstation 3 | | Posted Saturday, December 09, 2006 12:53:16 PM by Blog57 Team | | After years of promises, (some true, some false) the PlayStation 3 is here. But only for a lucky few though, since launch numbers were far below the PS2's Day One tally. Although small numbers of units are coming in each week, the launch left many eager shoppers without, to say the least. But is Sony's new system worth your $600? That depends on a lot of variables, I am afraid. It is difficult to look at this from only one or two angles. If you want to watch Blu-ray movies and play games, then this is an easy choice. You are not going to find a $600 Blu-ray player any time soon. If you are a PS2 owner and are upgrading to a PS3, there are a lot of advantages. If you own a PSP, there are even more features that integrate with your PSP, sweetening the deal even more.... | |

| | | TiVo stretching into the Internet | | Posted Tuesday, November 14, 2006 6:52:16 PM by Blog57 Team | | SAN JOSE, California (AP) -- In its ongoing bid to be a central conduit of media, TiVo Inc. plans to broaden its digital video recording service later this year so users of its set-top boxes can download videos from the Internet and watch them from their television sets. The new feature, one of several announcements TiVo made Tuesday, comes as homemade clips and Hollywood movies are all becoming more popular on the Web and an increasing number of tech giants are tackling the barriers to deliver video from a computer to the comforts of a living room. "Broadband video is growing rapidly on the Web, but the television will continue to be the key way viewers want to watch video," said TiVo's chief executive Tom Rogers. "Our overall goal is to provide as many types of content in as many formats to be displayable on the television through TiVo." TiVo's new broadband offering, however, will work only with downloaded videos that are not copy-protected, such as most user-generated clips and many video podcasts.... | |
