| Software downloads to download software | | Posted Wednesday, January 25, 2006 9:30:23 AM by Rose Martins | Downloads are not only limited to music and movies. There is a lot of software available for download, and many websites geared for the purpose of downloading software. And the downloaded software is often used to download other types of software.
There is software to download music, software to download online games such as blackjack and there is software to download additional computer software.
One can download full software packages, or trial demo packages that come with limited functionality or a limited time period.
Some of the downloaded software is free, and some of the software available for downloading requires payment of a set fee.
Downloading of software for free is often illegal and there has been an increase in the crack down of pirate downloaded software. Software companies have lost millions from people downloading illegal copies of software for free, and they are no longer turning a blind eye.
Downloading illegal copies of software for free, can mean expensive fines and even a possible lawsuit, if caught. The aim of making software available for download, is to provide the consumer with an easy, convenient and cost effective method of purchasing their software.

| | | Microsoft dithers on downloads | | Posted Tuesday, January 23, 2007 2:52:34 PM by Blog57 Team | | JUST a week before Microsoft cranks up what it calls its largest software launch in a decade, the company apparently can't say whether it will offer Australian users the chance to buy the latest versions of Windows and Office by download. Microsoft last week announced it would sell English-language versions of its new Windows Vista operating system from its Windows Marketplace web shopfront, which sells Windows-compatible software from both Microsoft and third-party suppliers. Downloadable upgrade versions would also be available via a new "Anytime Upgrade" service in the US, Canada, Europe and Japan. Windows' long-term partner, Microsoft Office, would also be available via download, the company said. But asked whether the download options would be available in Australia, Microsoft was unable to provide an answer.... | |

| | | Mule Reaches 500000 Downloads Milestone | | Posted Sunday, January 21, 2007 12:55:14 PM by Blog57 Team | | MuleSource, a provider of open source infrastructure and integration software, has announced that Mule has reached the 500,000 downloads milestone. Following an initial open source release in 2003 by creator Ross Mason, Mule reports that it has become the enterprise developer's most-used integration platform, and is currently in production at multiple Fortune 50 companies and more than 120 large enterprises worldwide.Mule claims to have gained initial developer traction as the industry's first open source ESB (Enterprise Service Bus). Over time the user community has implemented its simple configuration-based programming model to execute a range of J2EE integration tasks, with the ESB as one of many implementation topologies for Mule."As a developer, you face an infinite number of integration scenarios, so rigid tools that mandate specific architecture and standards choices have very limited value," said Mason.... | |

| | | Google Invests in Chinese Video Site to Gain Users (Update4) | | Posted Friday, January 05, 2007 2:53:57 PM by Blog57 Team | | Jan. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Google Inc., owner of the world's most-used Internet search site, invested in a Chinese company that helps users download online videos and software to take market share from local competitor Baidu.com Inc. Google will be a ``strategic investor'' in the company, Sean Zou, chief executive officer at Shenzhen Xunlei Network Technology Ltd., said at a briefing in Beijing today. He declined to say how much Mountain View, California-based Google spent. Google, whose share of China's market is one-third the size of Beijing-based Baidu's, gains access to the 120 million customers Xunlei says use its Web site. Google China President Lee Kai-Fu said the popularity of online videos will help the company win more customers in a Web market that may be the world's biggest in two years.... | |

| | | The Netizen's Guide: Web browsers beyond Explorer; Firefox heats up | | Posted Thursday, December 28, 2006 12:51:56 PM by Blog57 Team | | As you surf the Internet, you may not notice what Web browser you use. It's also likely you don't know your browser's specifics, its edition (version) or even how old it is. It's very likely you don't spend your evenings pondering ways to improve it. You probably know more about your toothbrush. Not all too long ago, there was a good reason for this blissful ignorance. There was essentially once choice, Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Today, there are a few more browsers out there, which offer users the same abilities, so similar, in fact, that the casual user may not even notice a difference. One of the most popular alternatives to Microsoft's Internet Explorer is called the Firefox, a Web browser for the Windows, Mac and Linux platforms. Microsoft's IE still dominates the browser market.... | |

| | | Seek to modernize your aging network | | Posted Monday, November 27, 2006 12:58:08 PM by Blog57 Team | | Jeff Horvath remembers the service call well. Denise and Guy Broadhurst's wireless computer network was suffering slow Internet transmission speeds, lumbering downloads and uploads, and recurring outages. The wireless network was several years old, a fact made worse by the two-story home's concrete block construction. Thick walls and distance taxed the unit's transmissions. Moreover, the use of several cordless phones in the 2.4 GHz frequency interfered with the wireless network's signal. When it was installed several years ago, the technology was leading edge with peripheral hardware and services like digital cameras, online gaming and music downloads. Several years later, their network was stretched way beyond its means. The remedy: Upgrade the network and replace the cordless phones with those in the 5.8 GHz range.... | |

| | | UMB Student Designs New Photo Editing Software | | Posted Tuesday, November 14, 2006 7:09:55 AM by Blog57 Team | | Cheng Chen's original impetus was to earn a good grade in his computer science class rather than develop his own image editing program. Over 97,000 downloads later, with thousands of forum users, and a four star product rating, his enthusiasm and dedication has grown due to the overwhelming response. Photobie (photobie.com), the name of his free program is the offspring of a project Chen started at UMass Boston in Professor Eathen Boker's Senior Software Engineering class. Chen, currently a PhD candidate at UMass Boston, collaborated with doctors at Mass General Hospital to create a software program that would allow real time annotation and screen capture while conducting a mammogram. "I was doing the part for the screen capture and so we were talking directly with the doctors who wanted those features," says Chen.... | |

| | | Technology Q&A: Photo-enhancing software is plentiful | | Posted Monday, November 13, 2006 3:03:56 AM by Blog57 Team | | Q. Thank you for all the great tips. I missed the one where you described in detail how to download photo-enhancing software. Would you please fill me in? A. Heaven knows that I've written a lot of stuff about ways to find software that lets computer users crop, enhance, adjust and otherwise tweak digital photographs, but I continue to get asked about this. It's understandable considering that not only are digital cameras replacing traditional film ones, but cell phones are replacing digital cameras. I wonder what will replace cell phones? Hmmmm. Sorry for the digression. Folks should know that many of the online photo-printing services permit customers to crop, fix red eye and do other minor enhancements with free software such as that from the Shutterfly Web photo service available at www.shutterfly.com and from its competitor Snapfish at www.snapfish.com.... | |
